Do you ever feel pressure to be more creative in what you do? If you answered yes, then you are not the only one – many people encounter a lack of inspiration, sometimes even motivation, which is extremely important when creating quality content. In addition, recent studies have shown that creativity is considered one of the most sought-after skills in today’s job market. This is completely understandable, as companies have a desire to stand out – the competition is increasing day by day.

In addition to the constant pressure from employers, many employees are also discouraged by the fear that they lack an artistic touch for creativity. The good news, however, is that creativity comes in all forms, and just about every one of us has the opportunity to use them to our advantage. The most common type of creativity is achieved simply by allowing the brain to perceive the patterns that create our world, and to create connections between everyday phenomena and ideas. However, we can rely on the creative nature of every human being, as it is hidden in all of us and comes to the fore just when we least expect it – moreover, sometimes we do not even notice it during its operation.

So why do we still face a lack of creativity?

When we are younger, we are interested in everything – trying different ideas and new things comes naturally. However, as we age, our ability to be creative may diminish as we lose curiosity and rely more on our experiences of what we have previously learned. Therefore, enabling daydreaming without a sense of limitation or fear of failure is key to fostering creativity and fostering innovation in the workplace. It is not enough to simply present the theme of creativity; employers need to help their employees understand how their brains work if they want to improve innovation.

Neuroscientists, for example, find that activity in your brain when you are creative is much more complex than the well-known difference between the right brain (creative, emotional, and poetic) and the left brain (analytical, practical, and organized). In the process of creativity, your brain seems to shine in several different areas and thus become involved in your emotional and cognitive thought processes.

So how can you use these practices and improve your creativity at work? You can use one of the following approaches.

Be curious

Much of creativity is curiosity as it triggers your network of attention and imagination, helping you focus on exploring dynamic thought simulations based on personal past experiences, thinking about the future, and exploring alternative perspectives and scenarios to date. Use your curiosity to explore everyday things – ask yourself why certain things happen, how they work and what impact they have. Ask questions without fear of looking stupid. Find new sources of knowledge, be it books, conferences, podcasts, TED talks or online courses. Follow your interests and explore their options in detail.

Be prepared for failure

Behind every creative genius lurk stories of failure. Similarly, if organizations are to cultivate creativity, they must create an environment where the risk of failure is accepted as part of the agreement. Many people would not admit it, but failure is actually part of success – if you are not familiar failing, it means that you are probably staying in your comfort zone and do not dare to cross the line that would allow further development and growth.

Cultivate positive emotions

Positive emotions, especially gratitude, compassion, joy, and inspiration, will help you broaden your horizons of thinking and strengthen your abilities. This way you will be able to notice every new opportunity and consequently think in a more creative spirit. At work, you can create more positive emotions by fostering quality business friendships, expressing gratitude, kindness, and hope, and finding ways to use your strengths in those things that you are successful at and enjoy.

Each of these methods can bring good results not only in the quality of work performed, but also in the well-being of employees in the company. The latter, of course, is what counts the most, as it affects the morale of workers as well as the speed of work and their productivity.
